McLaren may be preparing a senior supercar for Geneva, but Ferrari may just steal the show with its turbo comeback, which will arrive in the form of the California T.
What Maranello has done was basically introduce a really huge revamp for their Califonia, with the news being led by a new 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 engine. The unit, which features two twin-scroll turbos, delivers 560 HP at 7,500 rpm and 557 lb-ft (755 Nm) at 4,750 rpm.
Compared to the naturally-aspirated unit of the now-old California, you get 70 extra horses and, perhaps more importantly for the car’s character change, a 49 percent torque boost.
The 0 to 62 mph sprint is dealt with in 3.6 seconds, while fuel consumptions and emissions drop by 15 percent to 10.5 l/100 km (22.4 mpg) and 250 grams per km - of course, with the optional HELE equipment.
What’s more, Ferrari threatens to offer "the most exhilarating soundtrack any turbo has ever yielded." Until we get to actually hear the thing, here’s a spy video of Ferrari’s turbo engine testing.
The rest of the tech changes include a a new steering box and suspension setup. The latter comprises of new springs and Magnaride adaptive dampers. In addition, Ferrari brought new rotors and grabbers for the ceramic braking system.
As far as the aesthetic changes are concerned, the California T gets F12-inspired headlights, a revised front apron, a new hood, as well as revised flanks. At the rear, we see a new diffuser, as well as 3D-defined circular headlights.
Climbing aboard, we find the third central air vent on the dash to have been replaced by something called Turbo Performance Engineer. This offers a touch-screen interface allowing you to access various bits of engine and performance info.
Ferrari has also replaced the outdated infotainment system of the California, with the T model employing a new 6.5-inch display.
