Probably not even in its wildest dreams did Chevy ever imagined one of its El Caminos would sometime be worth close to $100,000. If anything, consider that back in the 1960s a fully loaded coupe utility of this type did not cost more than $3,000.
Decades ago, people were not extremely hyped about the El Camino, and despite the car being not only a rather unique apparition on the country’s roads, but also an interesting proposition in terms of performance, the line was discontinued about two decades after it was first introduced.
However, the model did manage to win the hearts of the people in the custom industry, and El Camino became one of the pillars of auctions and auto shows across the U.S. As part of our Muscle Car Month coverage back in May we talked at length about what El Caminos the custom industry now has to offer.
But that doesn’t mean we talked about all the customized El Caminos out there, and this one here sure deserves its time under the spotlight.
A 1966 model year, it is one of the best made examples of the breed currently on the market, restored with great care as not to change its already stunning appearance, but also with the goal of winning awards – and won it did, as the documents that come with the car seem to show.
Wrapped in Fawn inside and out, the El Camino packs the correct 396ci (6.4-liter) engine under the hood, and linked to the correct 4-speed manual transmission, it develops 360 hp.
The coupe utility is for sale, and unlike most of its siblings, which go for an average of $20,000 or thereabouts, this one is listed for $99,900. The buyer is promised not only the car for this amount, but also the prestige of owning an award-winning vehicle - and proof of that are the judging forms and award certificates it received over the years.
