Snow. You can either love it or hate it. It’s usually both, depending on circumstances. When out in the park or in your own backyard with the kids (or with your dog if you’re not there yet), it’s fun. Out on the road, it’s a pain in the backside.
Still, there are those who enjoy driving on snow-covered roads. Usually, they are slow drivers by nature who then have a very good reason to go easy, and the reason they like it so much is because the white stuff is basically leveling the playing field for them. When it snows, they’re like everyone else.
There’s another reason to treasure your time driving on snow, and that’s the complete absence of any road noise. Your tires are even more silent than over sand, except for the occasional squeek as the snow is pressed down under the weight of the car.
The rest of us, however, are not so crazy about it. But that’s not because you can’t have fun on snowy roads - on the contrary, it’s actually like party-time. It’s because you can’t really trust the other drivers and the probability of accidents happening is increased tenfold.
Using winter tires is a very good idea, with countless tests proving they offer more grip in snowy conditions, which translates into better handling and greatly reduced braking distances. Still, relying too heavily on them can be a double edged sword - you tend to get cocky, and only realize it when it’s too late.
The guy filming the accident in the video below seems to be using winter rubber, as the car goes around the two vehicles struck by the oncoming truck with pretty good accuracy. But just when you think he’s out of the hairy situation, there comes another. Spoiling it would be too easy, but you’ll know it when you see it.
It’s also a shame he cut the video early, as we’re left with a cliffhanger regarding the fate of that car that spun in the path of oncoming traffic.
