Eve Air Mobility and Jeju Air just dropped a comprehensive Concept of Operations (CONOPS) available for all the operators involved in advancing UAM (Urban Air Mobility) across the globe.
As more and more eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing) obtain official certification, commercial operators around the world are gearing up to kick off electric air taxi services. UAM is bringing manufacturers, suppliers, and operators from all over the world together. One of the most recent examples is a collaboration between Eve Air Mobility and Jeju Air. The two have released a CONOPS with the goal of encouraging everyone in the industry, as well as government officials, to share know-how and work together.

Eve Air Mobility is an independent company that was founded by the Brazilian aviation giant Embraer. It's headquartered in both Melbourne, Florida, and Sao Paolo, Brazil, which hints at its global vocation. Eve has already secured top-tier collaborations in Brazil, the US, the UK, and other locations. It's also more than an eVTOL manufacturer. It has also developed air traffic management solutions for UAM operations and plans to provide all the associated services and support for the future operators of its eVTOL.

Jeju Air, on the other hand, is one of the pioneers of commercial aviation in Asia. It played a key part in popularizing air travel in Korea and plans to do the same for the emerging UAM. Jeju Island could soon become a hub for electric air taxi operations. This popular tourist destination is also a registered biosphere with incredible biodiversity and unique geography, which makes it particularly suitable for zero-emission transport alternatives.

In fact, Jeju is set to become carbon-neutral by the end of this decade. That is why local officials and other industry players have already secured partnerships with eVTOL companies such as Overair and Eve Air Mobility. The Californian Overair is not only bringing its Butterfly eVTOL to Jeju Island but will also provide electric aircraft to the Korean Police.

The Eve Air Mobility eVTOL is a fully electric aircraft with a lift+cruise configuration, which combines fixed wings for cruise flying and dedicated rotors for vertical flight. According to the manufacturer, the eight-rotor configuration makes the eVTOL more rugged and reliable even in challenging conditions. The 100% electric propulsion will enable a 60-mile (100 km) range and drastically lower noise levels compared to conventional rotorcraft.

Eve's air taxi also boasts a flexible seating capacity, ranging from four seats to six seats in an autonomous configuration. That's because the Brazilian eVTOL will initially conduct piloted operations and gradually switch to fully autonomous flights. Last but not least, it also promises best-in-class cost efficiencies for eVTOLs and up to six times lower costs compared to standard helicopters.
