A new all-electric aircraft is getting ready to conquer the world with a mix of top performance and luxurious comfort. It comes from the Netherlands. It's named Electron 5, and it has already grabbed the attention of two innovative aviation operators.
Hopscotch Air, an air taxi operator known for providing comfortable air limo service in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and Canada, has added an all-electric aircraft to its fleet. Although folks in these areas will still need to wait a couple of years before the new aircraft enters service, it's already an exciting prospect. Berlin is another location where this new machine will show what it can do, following a recent MoU between the Dutch startup and the German aviation operator Air2E.

The Electron 5 is a Dutch battery-electric aircraft designed to fill the current gap in regional aviation. While eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing) are meant to provide emission-free alternatives to regular city commutes, the fixed-wing Electron 5 is taking a step further by increasing its range. A longer range is essential for clean regional air transportation, yet the current battery technology is keeping most aircraft manufacturing from aiming too big.

This is where Electron Aerospace comes in. The Netherlands-based startup is claiming that its flagship aircraft can offer a 500 km (311 miles) range with 250 km safety reserves, bringing the total to 750 m (466 miles), which is more than similar aircraft promise.

While operating with zero emissions, the battery-electric Electron 5 is able to reach 250 kph (155 mph) at 10,000 feet, with a noise signature under 55 dB (less than a household vacuum).

These specs sound good on paper for future operators, particularly since they'll also diminish operating costs considerably compared to conventional models. But future passengers will be more interested to know that they can expect a fancy cabin that promises the comfort and good looks of a sports car.

Premium seats, foldable tables, and USB ports are some of the features they can look forward to. Plus, the cabin features the largest windows in its class, which means excellent views for everyone.

The passenger configuration of the Electron 5 is designed to carry four passengers and the pilot. The cargo version promises a 500 kg (1,100 lbs) payload.

In the meantime, the Dutch company says it has reached €200 million in sales so far, and its flagship aircraft is expected to officially enter service by 2028. But it will take to the sky earlier than that: in 2027, pilot and adventurer Travis Ludlow plans to fly around the world with this all-electric aircraft. This is a truly exciting project named "E-Round the World" that will surely put Electron Aerospace on the map and skyrocket Electron 5's popularity.
