In approximately two years from now, folks in Miami and all across South Florida will finally be able to experience the highly-anticipated air mobility alternative to pesky commuting. These electric air taxis will be manufactured by a Brazilian aviation giant's subsidiary and operated by the newly launched subsidiary of an established air operator.
Two young companies with solid backup from their reputable parent companies are gearing up to launch electric air taxi services in South Florida, particularly the densest urban centers in the area. UrbanX Air is the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Miami-based GlobalX airline, operated by the Global Crossing Airlines Group. On the other hand, Eve Air Mobility is a subsidiary of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer.

Both of these companies were born to support UAM (Urban Air Mobility) operations based on eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing). UrbanX Air was officially introduced at the end of last month and is now announcing upcoming air taxi operations starting as soon as 2026.

That's when it's set to receive the first Eve air taxis. Last year, GlobalX committed to purchasing 200 aircraft from Eve, and the first ten units will be delivered two years from now. In the meantime, Eve and the young UrbanX Air will work on sorting out all the infrastructure, supply, and regulations issues. Of course, they'll work hand in hand with local and state officials.

While regional aviation operators are looking at hybrid-propulsion alternatives that can offer the capacity and the range needed for medium-distance travel, urban air operators can focus on all-electric aircraft, which are perfectly suitable for short-distance flights.

The Eve eVTOL, for instance, can only cover up to 60 miles (96.5 km) on a single charge. Still, that's enough for zero-emission, fast flights in Miami and across South Florida. Plus, these electric air taxis are specifically adapted for operating in busy urban areas – they promise drastically lower noise levels and flexibility in terms of infrastructure requirements.

The new air mobility provider wants to become the first to integrate all-electric flights in South Florida. It also says the eVTOLs won't be limited to commute services but will also be available for medical transport, corporate services, and tourism.

GlobalX isn't the only US airline betting on Eve Air Mobility. United Airlines also pre-ordered 200 units from the Embraer subsidiary. It's no surprise that Eve claimed, earlier this year, to be the number one on the market in terms of demand, with an order backlog of nearly 3,000 units.

It also secured a location for its future manufacturing facility. The Eve eVTOL factory in Taubate, Sao Paolo, will be the first of its kind in Brazil. Plus, its partner in setting up this pioneering UAM hub is none other than Porsche Consulting.
