BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products Inc.) has issued a double recall for some of their Spyder 3-wheeled vehicles.
The first recall is targeting the 2008-2009 Spyder GS, 2009-2012 Spyder RS and 2010-2012 Spyder RT units, and addresses a fuel cap problem. BRP has found out that the fuel cap may not fit perfectly onto the filler neck, and this could cause an imperfect seal. In certain conditions, fuel vapors could escape the tank and become a serious fire/ explosion hazard if exposed to ignition sources.

BRP will notify the owners and send a replacement cap free of charge. There is no words on whether this safety issue has caused damages or injuries so far. The replacement of the fuel caps should start in mid-January 2013, for the 33,700 Spyders in said series.

The second recall affects only 9,600 vehicles in the 2008-2009 Spyder GS and 2010 Spyder RS runs, and addresses a fuel vapors venting issue. The vent hose could leak some fuel vapors from the vapor canister and could catch on fire if getting in contact with an ignition source.

After notifying the owners, BRP will have the dealers inspect the Spyders, replacing or re-routing the said vapor hose, free of charge. The recall becomes effective early in January.
