China is putting its best foot forward in 2024. With Tesla as a major manufacturer in Chinese territory, its car exports grow significantly. Video footage captured by drone shows a gazillion Teslas ready to be shipped worldwide.
The Giga Shanghai is rolling out Tesla cars with the speed of light. The aerial footage uploaded on YouTube shows a large number of vehicles being stationary at the Shanghai South Port. The batch includes thousands of Teslas, ready to be shipped to countries in Asia and Europe.

The operator of the drone is Wu Wa, a longtime Tesla watcher, who has been showing aerial footage of the facility from the moment construction works started in the area. At the moment of the flyover of the Shanghai South Port, a car carrier ship was being loaded.

The cars that seem to be ready for shipment are all right-hand drive variants. So one thing is for sure: they won't be setting wheels in Australia, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom. They are most likely on their way to Europe.

The one who uploaded the video claims that the transport is expected to leave the port in Shanghai on January 8. Once they arrive at their destination, they should start being delivered.

The number of vehicles delivered on the local market also meets Elon Musk’s high expectations. Over 60,000 Teslas reached their new owners in China in December, before Christmas Day. The American carmaker is targeting sales of 1.8 million in 2023. We are probably just days away from finding out if they hit the milestone.

Giga Shanghai is Tesla's largest vehicle plant. It is also the first and, for the moment, only factory that is manufacturing the new-generation Tesla Model 3, with the Fremont production center ready to begin sometime in the first quarter of 2024. The plant has an annual estimated vehicle production capacity of over 950,000.

Tesla started the construction of the Giga Shanghai in December 2018 and operations kicked off one year later with the production of the Tesla Model 3. The first 15 cars from the Giga Shanghai were delivered on December 30, 2019, to employees of the facility. First Chinese customers got their new Model 3s on January 7, 2020.

A single shift of workers was rolling out approximately 2,000 cars per week. The factory in China also builds the Model Y at double the volume of the Model 3. The updated Model Y, which is still under development, is also going to see the light of day there.

Giga Shanghai is unique in the Chinese automotive. It is the only production center wholly owned and operated by a foreign automaker and not as a joint venture with a Chinese company. It was the first time China’s government permitted such a move.
