Today, we're watching an epic(ly expensive) race between the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and its rivals, the BMW M8 and Audi R8 V10 Spyder. Together, they cost the equivalent of just one 1001-horsepower 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto. Sadly, that one's not in this picture, but we can't wait until next year when it will rear its Murcielago-like nose more often.
Oh, before we get to the race and meet our contestants, there's one more thing about the Revuelto's price. Some estimates do indeed set the price at around $610k in the US. But in the UK, for example, depending on what options you choose, you can easily get close to the equivalent of almost $700,000.

Just like Mat Watson's friend, Yianni (Yiannimize) did while ordering his future Revuelto. Now, enough drooling over the Lambo, and let's get back to our racers of the day.

In the Audi corner, we have Mat Watson from "carwow" driving his $200,000 R8 Spyder with a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine that can deliver 671 hp or 620 ps with 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque. It's AWD and weighs 3,737 lbs. (1,695 kg).

Next, there's the BMW M8 Convertible, which is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of producing 616 ponies (625 ps) and 553 lb-ft or 750 Nm of torque. It also drives all four of its wheels and weighs 4,630 lbs. or 2,100 kg. The price tag dangles around the equivalent of $180,777.

Lastly, we have the elegant Mercedes-AMG SL 63, another convertible gem of a car. It's packing a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that can release 577 hp (585 ps) with 590 lb-ft or 800 Nm of torque. Of course, it also has an all-wheel-drive system and weighs 4,515 lbs or 2,048 kg. The cost of this thing doesn't sting any less, priced at 218,303 US dollars.

While they are obscenely expensive for an average human, at the same time, it's still funny how all three put together, are still $100,000 cheaper than Yanni's Lamborghini Revuelto.

Now, before they started the actual race, Mat was up to his usual shenanigans and slightly modified the rules. Because the cars are convertibles, the plan was to have all three put down their roof first at the start signal, and only after the operation was completed would they launch.

It was raining quite annoyingly, but that didn't matter one bit, even though by the end, the interiors of the cars were almost soaking wet. In any case, the Audi R8 was first off the line, followed by the BMW M8 and Mercedes.

After even more tomfoolery with their top downs, the real event finally took place, where the Audi destroyed everyone, completing the 1/4-mile in 11.7 seconds. The BMW was second, finishing in 12.3 seconds, while the AMG was last, crossing the line in just 12.4 seconds.

Then, a couple of 1/2-mile roll races followed, where, during the first attempt, the Audi came in first, with the BMW and Mercedes in second and third places again. Then, the BMW won the second roll race, followed by the Audi and Mercedes.

The last trial was the regular brake test from 100 mph or 161 kph, which was won by the Mercedes, finally securing a win. In other words, there you have it, folks! An elegant, albeit very rainy, convertible race where the Audi R8 proved its mettle against a BMW M8 and Mercedes-AMG SL 63.
