Everyone’s new favorite track toy these days is the new BMW F80 M3. Considering the specs and the new engine and the fact that it’s a true M car, it’s was only expected to see such a reaction from the drag race scene.
While on most occasions, the Bimmer surprises, taking down even more powerful models, this time it’s going up against a car that has nearly twice the engine size, two turbochargers and a lot of extra horsepower and torque on it.

The Bavarian uses a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo engine making 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque for its M3 and M4 while the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG uses a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 making 525 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

At first, the M3 seems to be massively overpowered, going in without a chance to win. However, the weight factor also plays a role here. Actually, the E-Class is heavier than the M3 by nearly 300 kg (660 lbs). Furthermore, looking over the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) times, the 7-speed DCT M3 is faster than the more powerful AMG by 0.2 seconds.

Unfortunately for the Bimmer, the race was done from a rolling start. That allowed the Merc to compensate for the extra weight with its extra torque and claim the win. The difference was minimal, though, considering the fact that the E63 stole the start. Check it out!
