Rivian ramped up R1T and R1S production at its factory in Normal, Illinois, and is now preparing for stellar third-quarter delivery numbers. Earlier this month, hundreds of pickup trucks and SUVs were spotted at Service Centers, awaiting delivery. Now, dozens of the new R1T Dual-Motor Large-pack configurations dropped in the R1 Shop.
Rivian appears to have overcome production glitches at its Normal, IL, factory, and the production is ramping up nicely. Speaking recently at Goldman Sach's Communacopia event, Rivian's CFO Claire McDonough confirmed that the EV startup is well on track to produce 52,000 EVs in 2023. The new Enduro motors Rivian developed in-house are the most significant contributor to this performance. They are used for EDV production, as well as Dual-Motor configurations of the R1S and R1T.
As parts are no longer a bottleneck, Rivian started to amass vehicles at Service Centers, as we reported earlier this month. Videos shared online showed hundreds of Rivian R1S and R1T EVs awaiting delivery in parking lots. This proved that Rivian is preparing for the end-of-quarter push and trying to deliver as many vehicles as possible to their customers before the bell rings on September 30. After solving the production issues, Rivian has an equally challenging task: honing its logistics to move all these trucks off the lots.
As expected, many of these vehicles landed in Rivian's not-so-secret R1 Shop and are now available for immediate delivery to those who have been granted access to the Shop. Rivian reservation holders can request access to the R1 Shop if they live near a Rivian Service Center. The access is time-limited, so you must make up your mind quickly before the offer disappears.
To be sure, the first Rivian EVs sporting the new Dual-Motor configuration were reported in the R1 Shop in July, but they disappeared shortly after that. Rivian fan and software tracker @RivianSoftware received a video showing dozens of R1T pickups in the R1 Shop, all sporting the Dual-Motor and Large battery pack combination that only recently started deliveries. There are many options and configurations to choose from at various price points to suit everyone's budget. These include at least one $79,000 configuration, which qualifies for a $3,750 tax credit.
According to @RivianSoftware, these trucks were shown to an Orlando reservation holder after they got access to the R1 Shop. The vehicles that appear in the Shop are available at the local Service Center selected by the reservation holder when granted access, so everyone sees different configurations and availability. Still, all these R1Ts have a 3-6 weeks delivery window, so they're likely already parked at the Service Center.
These deliveries will likely count toward the fourth-quarter results as we're less than two weeks from the end of the quarter. Seeing all these vehicles cramming Service Center parking lots, it's clear that Rivian will end the year with a bang.
