Back in the earliest days of the LX platform, Chrysler and Dodge both had full-size station wagons in their lineups. Based on the 300 and Charger, the Touring and Magnum were all the more interesting thanks to their V8 options.
Chrysler is no longer relevant in this segment because the 300 is nothing more than a has-been these days, and as far as Dodge is concerned, the Charger soldiers on as a widebody sedan with 707 horsepower (717 PS) at the crank. On the other hand, an SRT Hellcat longroof would certainly be a tempting proposition.
Wagons are one thing, but hot wagons are even rarer in the United States at the time of writing. The two premier models that we can think of are the Mercedes-AMG E 63S 4Matic+ and Audi RS 6 Avant, mid-sized longroofs that can be summed up as low-volume exceptions to the CUV- and SUV-driven market.
The three-pointed star has no fewer than 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque (612 PS and 850 Nm) from 4.0 liters of displacement and a couple of turbos. The four-ringed automaker follows the same recipe albeit with 591 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque (600 PS and 800 Nm).
Not only would the Dodge Magnum SRT Hellcat trump them in terms of suck-squeeze-bang-blow but top speed also favors the Mopar family car at 196 miles per hour or 315 kilometers per hour.
The Charger SRT Hellcat for the 2020 model year lost eight miles per hour due to the widebody kit that affects the aerodynamics in favor of grip. In addition to the pumped-out fender flares, the 305/35-section tires wrapped around 11-inch-wide wheels help the full-size sedan claw into the blacktop a little better than before.
When all is said and done, the wishful thinking has to end here. Coming courtesy of Brazilian pixel artist Kleber Silva, the muscleclad wagon doesn’t have a place in the lineup because Dodge would sell too few to justify the development costs.
