“We need some great humility in this race. We know that we have to work and there is still lots to be improved, such as performance and reliability: it's important to stay realistic,” said di Montezemolo ahead of the race at Albert Park.
Additionally, he hinted that his team has to set its first goal in getting both drivers as high as they can in qualifying, as overtaking on the Australian venue is not something that comes easy to any competitor (especially with the new regulations, we might add).
“In Melbourne it will be fundamental to have a good qualifying on Saturday, because as usual on city circuits, also here in Australia to start from the front will determine the final outcome,” added the Ferrari CEO.
Writing on his Ferrari blog about the upcoming race, 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso also reckoned that overtaking at Albert Park will be close to impossible – at least within the Top 4 teams – so setting a great time on Saturday is also a top priority in his book also.
“I like the Albert Park track. It's quite a technical circuit with some pretty interesting corners. Overtaking has never been easy and what is even more important now, like on all city circuits, is the result in the qualifying,” said Alonso, who headed Ferrari's triumph in Bahrain.
