Ferrari - The Most Popular Team in Formula 1

Yesterday, we have presented to you some partial results of the survey conducted by the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) and the Formula One Management (FOM) – named the 2010 LG Global Fan Survey – in which it has emerged that Michael Schumacher is the most famous driver in F1 for the time being.

Today, some several results have surfaced in the media, with Ferrari now emerging as the most popular team in the series. Having lost their position to rivals McLaren in recent years, the Scuderia made a forceful comeback in 2009/10, as it topped the rankings with 30.1 percent of the votes expressed online. McLaren was obviously second, with 19.1 percent, followed by Brawn/Mercedes GP with a little over 10 percent.

The survey was conducted starting February this year and benefited from the votes of no less than 90,000 fans worldwide. According to the survey's official website, it seems that people from around 180 countries participated in the survey.

Another interesting information revealed by the LG Global Fan Survey was that the fans were in total agreement with the FIA/FOTA changes in terms of points format. Starting this season, the winner of a race is awarded 25 points, while the second and 3rd place drivers get 18 and 15 points respectively.

According to the survey, 44.9 percent of the fans think the new system is better than the old one, while more than 60 percent opinionated that the points margin between the winner and the runner-up should have been bigger.

This is the biggest survey about Formula One racing ever launched, with the results to be used by the FOTA – and also the other deciding factors of F1 – in order to improve the show in the series for the future.
