Ferrari to Improve Engine Cooling through Aerodynamics

Ferrari had little time to celebrate on Sunday, as the problems they faced throughout the winning weekend in Bahrain made the Scuderia technicians switch focus almost immediately to the upcoming few races. Because of the hot temperatures at Sakhir, Ferrari had to change the engines of both Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso prior to the Sunday race.

Additionally, in the second part of the race, Ferrari told Massa to drive economically until the chequered flag, as his fuel was running out. Later on, it emerged that this was actually an overheating issue.

Today, we had to manage a very complicated situation with Felipe’s car, because of the high temperatures. The temperature of the engine is the result of the aerodynamics of the car, so we have to work on that in order to make sure we don't have any more of these kinds of issues for the next hot races,” said Ferrari's boss Stefano Domenicali.

Massa himself admitted that the overheating problems prevented him from pushing to the limit in the last 30 laps of the race.”We had to manage the temperatures on the car and, for around thirty laps, I was not able to push as hard as I could,” admitted the Brazilian.

In the upcoming few days, it is expected for Ferrari to make a decision on the new parts to be fitted to the F10 for the Australian Grand Prix. As showed in Bahrain, the new devices will obviously focus on improving the engine cooling, as high temperatures are expected in Melbourne too.
