Looking to take your first-generation Ford Mustang out to the dragstrip for some lightning fast quarter mile runs? Well, then you’ll need a set of beefy rear slicks to handle all that V8 power. That also means more clearance, an issue which can be solved with Detroit Speed’s new deep tub kit.
Designed for the 1964.5 to 1970 Ford Mustang, the kit features 18-gauge steel stamped deep tubs that are up to 2.5-inches wider than stock ones, replacement framerail section and doubler reinforcement plates. The company says the deep tubes can accommodate tires as wide as 315mm for the 1964.5 - 1968 Mustang and 335mm for the 1969 - 1970 Mustang. However, fitting 315 tires on the 1964.5 - 1966 pony will require for the framerail to be narrowed by one inch.
Detroit Speed's deep tubs will reduce the number of hours required for a mini-tub project and will retain the stock appearance of the vehicle. The kit can be ordered for $400 as we speak.
