Deluxe, Sleek 4x4 Sprinter Packs All You Need To Enjoy Van Life Off the Grid, Now for Sale

What's the first van model that comes to mind when you think of "luxury"? If you're like most people, you probably thought of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which stands out with its high-quality build and an appropriately high price tag. Most of the premium conversion I've written about were based on the Sprinter van - even this billionare's custom conversion.

What we have here is a 4x4 2021 Sprinter van with a 144" wheelbase converted into a full-time mobile home. Its creator is Modern Times Van Co, a Clearwater, Florida-based company specializing in luxury custom van conversions. This rig is currently for sale – I'll provide more info about that at the end of the article.

On the outside, this camper is finished in blue paint all around, nicely paired with bronze Method rims that are wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Moreover, if you look above, you'll notice a Flatline Van Co. low-profile roof rack, which you can get to by climbing on a driver's side ladder.

Pop open the sliding door, and you'll discover a modern interior with various luxury touches. Regarding design, Modern Times Van Co. opted for white oak detail throughout paired with white cabinetry and waterproof LVP (luxury vinyl planks) flooring. What's more, the ceiling and one wall feature a slatted design with a black backer board.

Starting from the front, you'll see that this rig's layout is open, meaning the driver's cabin isn't separated from the living space. Moreover, the driver's and passenger's seats can be swiveled, and there's a spacious headliner shelf above them.

Like in many other camper van builds, the diesel heater is located directly underneath the passenger seat, where you'll also find a display you can use to set the temperature.

Behind the driver's seat, the company devised a small seating area consisting of a bench with a built-in seatbelt and storage underneath, a swivel table, a window, and two overhead cabinets. It's the perfect spot to eat, read, or work on your laptop since you'll find a reading light and an outlet nearby. Furthermore, up to four people can be seated here if you turn around the driver's and passenger's seats.

By the way, Modern Van Times Co. explained that it likes making each area multi-purpose. In this regard, the seating area also serves as one of two bedrooms. The company came up with a solution I haven't seen before in a camper van – you can extend a frame, which also comes with a flip-up panel.

Then, you have to attach two separately stored legs and flip the frame's top panel out, and you'll have a long bench occupying the entire width of the interior. It measures five feet (1.52 meters) in length, so it fits a short person or a child.

The next part of this rig is the kitchen, located on the passenger side. It features a white solid surface countertop, a flip-up countertop extension, an overhead shelf, a dual-burner induction stove, a Dometic fridge/freezer, and a deep sink with a cover and an extendable faucet. Moreover, there's a decent amount of storage space in the form of two drawers and a large cabinet.

Integrate into the wall behind is a control panel comprising switches for the lights and water pump, tiyn displays that let you know how much water and power you've got, and an inverter switch. By the way, the lighting inside this van is amazing – it's subtle, yet it completely changes the ambiance. There are three lighting zones with independent dimmable switches that control toe-kick LEDs and strips under the overhead cabinets and in the ceiling.

Opposite the kitchen, you'll find a wet bathroom with a full-size shower, a removable cassette toilet, hexagon tiles made from PVC, and a self-cleaning Nautilus sliding door. The bathroom offers a surprisingly large amount of space, enough to fit two people inside. A nice touch is its slightly arched doorway.

The last part of the living space is the bedroom, positioned slightly higher up to make room for the garage underneath. It has an almost queen-size bed with a length of 6 feet (183 centimeters), four spacious overhead cabinets, a ceiling Dometic RTX2000 A/C, and a beautiful reading light.

Instead of fitting windows on both sides, Modern Times Van Co. installed two bump-outs to extend the width of the space, or better said, the bed's length since you'll sleep side-to-side. Of course, you need a natural light source in the bedroom, so the builder devised two rear windows integrated into the rear doors. Moreover, they're slide-screen windows, so they can be opened to let in some fresh air.

The garage is spacious and runs quite deep inside. It also houses the plumbing and electrical system. The highlights of the latter system are 680 Ah batteries, a 3,000 W inverter, an alternator charger, and a solar charge controller connected to 350 W solar panels on the roof - they're powerful enough to allow for worry-free off-grid living.

Water in this rig is provided by a 40-gallon (151-liter) tank, while a 2.5-gallon (9.5-liter) electric heater makes sure you can enjoy a hot shower.

All in all, Modern Times Van Co. has created an aesthetically pleasing van that not only looks good but also has the capabilities to take you off-road and keep you nice and cozy. Given that this is the short-wheelbase version of the Sprinter, it's got a surprising number of features packed inside. The large bathroom is also a nice bonus.
