A company called Intense Motorsports from Charlotte, North Carolina, blew our minds today. Why? Because they did a valve cover and custom turbo with wood finish.
No, they haven't been covered in real wood or painted by hand. That would take foreever and might not take the heat from the engine. This has been done using the hydro-dip technique where a specially designed membrane that floats over water transfers itself to any product you want, car parts, in this case.
We're not completely sure what sort of engine we're dealing with, but it appears to be a 4-cylinder that wasn't designed to have a turbo. It's most likely one of Honda's old K24 mills, either pulled from a Civic or some classic Acura. As for the turbo, that's the Garrett GT40, about $2,500 worth of awesome boost pressure right there. You can get anything from a 300 whp streetable car to a 1,200 whp supercar killer with VTEC, turbo and NOS.
Intense Motorsports have also done another engine cover, this time with pixel gray camouflage. And in this case, you can definitely see that it's a Honda engine.
hydro-dip is rapidly replacing wrap as the must-have customization option. From skulls to dollar bills, you can have pretty much anything printed out and applied. If it were us, we'd just cover a whole Civic Si in "VTEC" logos and be done with it.
What else can we say, except… VTEC and TURBO kicked in yo!
