Summer is fast approaching, so now is a great time for outdoor enthusiasts to start investigating a van conversion for their upcoming adventures. In a market dominated by large Mercedes, Volkswagen, and Fiat-based camper vans, compact camper van specialist Crosscamp dares to do things differently by offering lighter alternatives that combine outdoor activities with an urban lifestyle.
The German brand, which is part of the Erwin Hymer Group, has joined forces with Opel to reveal two new practical and comfortable campers based on the Opel Zafira minivan - the Crosscamp Urban Camper Full and Crosscamp Urban Camper Lite. As their names suggest, both versions are targeted at urban adventurers who appreciate flexibility and want to be able to easily access both public car parks in the city center and remote campsites.

Both new Crosscamp variants based on the Opel Zafira offer this flexibility thanks to the base vehicle's exterior dimensions - a length of 195 inches (495 cm) and a height of only 78.3 inches (199 cm) -  but while the Crosscamp Urban Camper Lite is best suited for short trips thanks to its simple floor plan and flexible equipment options, the Crosscamp Urban Camper Full comes equipped with many permanent fixtures, which makes it more suitable for longer adventures.

Designed as a versatile all-rounder, the Crosscamp Urban Camper Lite can easily switch between a camper and an everyday vehicle. That's because fitted camping equipment is kept to a minimum and can still be used as a work vehicle or family shuttle for up to seven people.

This variant features various adaptable storage solutions, such as a kitchen unit with a gas cooker that pulls out to the rear, a compartment for a 1.8-kg gas cylinder, and a removable storage container on the driver’s side. A 13-liter cool box is also available as an optional feature and can be fitted between the front seats.

The pop top, combined with a foldable sleeping bench that transforms into a double bed running the whole width of the van (140 x 199 cm/ 55.11 x 78.3 inches), provides comfortable sleeping for four in the Zafira-based Crosscamp Lite.

The Crosscamp Urban Camper Full, on the other hand, is a fully-fledged camper that allows the entire family to enjoy extended outdoor holidays together. It comes with all the facilities you normally find in modern campers, making it suitable even for van lifers, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and overlanders looking to explore further away.

The compact living space inside the Zafira is equipped with a kitchen block that includes a sink connected to fresh water and waste water tanks, a two-burner gas cooktop, and various storage options. A coolbox and a multifunctional table are also included.

Five people can travel safely inside this camper, but sleeping capacity is offered for four adults. The benches can be converted into a comfortable bed that measures 114 x 199 cm (44.9 x 78.3 inches), with more sleeping space unlocked via the pop-up roof, which is offered as a standard feature with the Crosscamp camper vans and offers beautiful views of the surroundings through three panoramic windows.

The front seats in both campers based on the Opel Zafira sit on swiveling mounts, so they can rotate 180 degrees and face the interior of the van. Campers' comfort during travel is ensured by heat and sound-insulated glazing, dual-zone automatic climate control, and easy-care wood-effect sandwich flooring.

It’s worth mentioning that Crosscamp also offers plenty of optional extras to customize and better equip the two Urban Campers to meet your specific adventure needs, such as bike racks, awnings, roof racks, and more. This means that with the Crosscamp Urban Camper Full and Urban Camper Lite, you are not confined to exploring the concrete jungle, despite the “urban” in the name. With the right accessories, both campers can be adapted to the adventurous outdoor lifestyle of mountain bikers, surfers, and hikers.

Crosscamp campers are manufactured and sold by Dethleffs, a Isny/Allgäu-based division of the Erwin Hymer Group, so they have the backing of one of the largest manufacturers of leisure vehicles in the world.
