Coulthard Wants Second Season in the DTM

David Coulthard scored his first point in the DTM in the very season finale at Shanghai, and apparently that made his appetite for racing in the German series to grow. So much that he can't wait for a repeat of his experience with Mercedes-Benz in 2011.

DC, who was handed a one-year old spec Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse AMG only weeks before the start of the 2010 season, admitted that he found it difficult to understand the driving in the DTM at first. However, as the season progressed, he managed to upper his game and, eventually jumped on the official scoreboard of the 2010 campaign in the eleventh hour.

If I think back to the first race at Hockenheim, at that point I was thinking 'what am I doing here?' It moved on very quickly from a bit of testing for fun to me ending up on the grid for the first race!” said Coulthard in a recent interview with Autosport.

But I've felt more at home as the season has gone on. I think we've built a good platform for the future, so it's worth sticking around again for a second year. Hopefully when we're all back home [from Shanghai] we can get things sorted in the next couple of weeks,” added the 13 F1 Grand Prix winner.

DC's signing with Mercedes-Benz brought the German carmaker a brand new sponsor for 2010. For the first time since they have been involved in the DTM (back in 2008), Deutsche Post agreed for a sponsorship deal with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, regarding DC's programme.

However, the prospect of seeing Coulthard take the same road as Ralf Schumacher in the German series is unlikely, as the Scot made it very clear that he doesn't want to progress to a top-spec car and, consequently, strip one of the marque's rising talents to make that step instead.

I'm not going to sit here and demand a new car just because of my past achievements. Obviously I take this seriously and I'd love to be in a winning car, but there are drivers out there at the moment that would me far more deserving of it than me,” he said.
