Coulthard Hints DTM Future Is Possible

David Coulthard admitted that his future in motor racing is still open, despite signing only a one-year deal with Mercedes-Benz to join the German manufacturer into the DTM series. The 39-year old Scot will make his first official racing appearance in more than one and a half years this weekend, at Hockenheim, in a one-year old AMG Mercedes C-Klasse.

Although barely waiting to get behind the wheel and drive for the win, DC said he has to first enjoy the series and only after consider a repeat in 2011.

I tested at Monteblanco, Portimao, and then two days at Valencia. I had some ups and downs - sometimes I'd put new tyres on and not deliver the laptime I was expecting to. That's all part of the learning process,” said Coulthard in an interview with British magazine Autosport.

I have an open mind about the future, but you need this first season to know whether you can go forward, and see whether I'm enjoying it,” added the former Red Bull driver, who also hinted that DTM would probably be the best place to continue his racing career past the 2010 season.

The Scot is already regarded as a great asset by his new team, as he attracted some immense enthusiasm from both fans and sponsors. Deutsche Post, the DTM Series' official partner for the last 2 years, has recently confirmed their support for DC, this becoming the first contact between them and Mercedes Benz in the championship's history.

Two striking signals for DTM and Mercedes-Benz in one sweep – it couldn’t come any better. David Coulthard makes his motor-racing comeback in DTM and at the same time, the Deutsche Post begins a partnership with us, in the new season,” noted Mercedes' motorsport director Norbert Haug.
