Back around the middle of December 2012, Coda Automotive fired 50 workers from its production facility, which equated to around 15% of their entire workforce. Now, it seems that things are still not on the right track, as the green US automaker has announced additional layoffs.
Back then, they explained that the move was aimed to push the company forward and streamline the operation. Now, in a statement sent to AutoblogGreen, they gave a more complex explanation:

On Friday, January 4th CODA furloughed a number of employees as the Company takes necessary action to bolster its financing and better position the business going forward. The Company has kept in place a sufficient number of staff to keep the Company operational and remains committed to the continued development and distribution of its products. During this period, CODA will continue to provide service to its dealers and customers. While unfortunate, we are confident this temporary action will allow the Company to strategically direct resources towards critical operations and put the Company on a more sustainable path.

With sales which have yet to impress and news like this, we are beginning to wonder if Coda will be able to make it in the increasingly-competitive market sector it is positioned it, and despite their Sedan being a good car, building a successful business requires a lot more than that - laying people off to stay afloat is clearly not a good sign.
