The month of May, this year, marked the launch of the all-electric CODA sedan, a car partially-built in China, and the assembled and registered in the US. Now, the California startup manufacturer has reportedly delivered its 100th car, and despite flying under the radar since the car’s launch, in terms of marketing and promotion, they now plan a more aggressive push into the EV niche.
According to the company CEO, Phil Murtaugh, “March through July was a soft launch; new car, new company, new manufacturing process, new everything. Now as we get into real production ramp-up we need to add some dealers.” With the number of EVs expected to be sold in the US by the end of this year hovering around the 12,000 to 15,000 mark, CODA aims to capture around 15% of the entire US market, and if they ramp up production like they say, and market their products more intensely, then they may stand a chance of achieving their goal.

Currently, they reportedly have around 1,000 orders , as according to bloomberg.com, they need to bring the price down from the current $37,250 which is way too much for a car which only does 88 miles (140 km) on a single charge, and doesn’t carry the reassuring badge of a mainstream manufacturer.
