Click and Ride Portable Navigation Unit by VW

Volkswagen Accessories has released yet another useful toy for motorists around the world. If you have ever been annoyed by the suction cups mounted on the windshield and the traces they leave behind, VW now offers an alternate solution.

The Click and Ride portable navigation unit allows you to leave all that behind. By plugging the portable unit into the integration kit, which has been tested according to Volkswagen criteria, the Garmin nuvi is now positioned on the dashboard.

To get rid of the external cabling, Volkswagen has positioned the ready-to-receive-GPS system on the left side of the dashboard (for right-hand drive vehicles: to the right) next to the steering wheel and glued in place. It can be removed in order to fit it on another car as well.

The Garmin nuvi navigation unit is simply plugged into the plug-in kit cover, making it ready for immediate use. The system comes with a 4.3-inch widescreen color display and a pre-loaded map of Europe.

In addition, the Garmin nuvi comes with practical and safety-relevant auxiliary functions such as Lane Assist, 3D map view, 3D building view for selected large towns, announcement of road names (text to speech), TMC, SD card slot and a Bluetooth hands-free kit.

Useful as it is, Volkswagen does warn that a prolonged installation of the kit on the dashboard may cause slight changes in color of the dashboard, "depending on the vehicle model". So basically you traded a fixable problem (suction cup marks can be cleaned easily) with a more permanent one: a bi-color dashboard...
