Civic Type R: The Other Side of Honda

Here's a video of yet another car not coming to a Honda US dealer near you any time soon. While the 2015 Civic Si still has about as much power as it did 10 years ago, the Europeans are getting something special, a turbo engine. Coming hot on the heels of the NSX, the Japanese automaker is planning performance in a compact hatchback size, specifically designed to appeal to Golf GTI buyers.
The new Civic Type R should be ready in 2015, by which time it will mop the floor with the Ford Focus ST, VW Golf GTI and anybody else that wants to challenge it for Nurburgring supremacy.

Honda calls this a concept car, but it's 99% ready for production. The only thing it needs is an interior makeover and some suspension fine-tuning. The biggest change is of course under the bonnet. Realizing VTEC technology wasn't enough in this day and age, Honda has added a turbo to its 2-liter four-banger's arsenal to give this car somewhere between 280 and 300 horsepower.

To keep all that power going to the road, an aggressive body kit akin to a touring car has been fashioned for the Type R. It includes huge intakes at the front and the largest rear wing yet fitted to a Civic. Four exhaust pipes should make every boy racer lust over the backside of the Type R.

Together with this video, Honda UK has also rolled out a special section for its official website, where the Type R is being teases like an R-rated "dirty" magazine. Clever, very clever!
