Launched back in February as an integrated car rental service for people that are always on the move, the Citroen Multicity will make a turn for the green and add the C-Zero electric car to the range of vehicles it has to offer.
The car, which can be rented from six agencies in the Paris region (the Gare Montparnasse, Gare de Lyon and Gare du Nord train stations, Orly airport, Porte Maillot and Nanterre), will wear a price tag of Eur35 for half of a day.
The C-Zero, the first of the Citroen future line of electric vehicles, provides a range of up to 150 km, can seat up to four people and, as all other EVs on the market, can be recharged from any socket should the battery run dry along the way.
As for the Multicity service, it is the first of its kind offered by an automaker. In the simplest of words, the service relies on a website where all those on the move can reserve and buy, from one place, plane and train tickets or rent a car. Multicity will eventually grow to give the customers the ability to make reservations at hotels and plan the journey in advance.
The Citroen service (the French automaker describes itself as the “first automotive brand to make mobility easier”) is for now available only in France, and only in its capital. In the not-so-distant future, it will be exported to other French cities, and perhaps even other countries, provided that it becomes a success.
