Citroen Sponsors the 2010 BT Paralympic World Cup

French manufacturer Citroen announced yesterday it will be supporting the 2010 BT Paralympic World Cup by providing a 16-vehicle fleet, including the C3 Picasso, C-Crosser, Grand C4 Picasso and C5, in order to help with athlete transportation during this week’s event. The BT Paralympic World Cup is a multi-sport elite disability event, with over 300 competitors from more than 31 countries taking part in four sports: Wheelchair Basketball, Football 7-a-side, Swimming and Athletics. The competition will be staged in Manchester from May 25-31. The GB team includes 30-year-old David Weir who will be defending his 800m and 1,500m BT Paralympic World Cup titles. He is joined by multiple British medallists Ian Jones, Shelly Woods, Eleanor Simmonds and Libby Clegg. Oscar Pistorius, one of the world’s most famous Paralympic athletes, will also be competing at this year’s event. The four-time Paralympic champion, known as ‘Blade Runner’ because of his carbon-fibre transtibial lower legs, will be looking to defend his 100m and 400m titles. “Having narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Oscar is planning to compete in the 2012 London Olympics, as well as the Paralympics,” a statement reads. “Citroen is honoured to be supporting these extraordinary athletes as they compete at this prestigious event,” Marc Raven, Citroen’s Communications Director, said in a release. Tickets for the BT Paralympic World Cup are on sale now and can be purchased at £6 per session. autoevolution has tested the C3 Picasso. You can check out the review here.
