Chevrolet and GM are really proud of the Volt, and after having been against the idea of an electric vehicle for so long, they are now embracing the idea, and are reaping the benefits - the Volt was Bob Lutz’ last ‘big thing’ at GM, and his idea turned out to be a real winner.
We reported a while back that that Volt owners were approaching the 100-million mile milestone, but Now they have racked up a collective 100-million all-electric miles, and with GM claiming that on average they are running on electricity alone for around 65% of the time, this equates to savings of $1,370 per year, in gasoline bills.

However, since there are quite a few Volts out and about, the total savings, in terms of fuel used, are massive - an estimated five million gallons of gas. Also, with careful planning and regular charging, owners can expect to travel around 900 miles before needing to top up on gasoline.

Still, there are those who actually use the technology to its fullest, not like they do in the Netherlands, and he was reportedly able to drive some 1,900 miles before finally being forced to stop at the pumps.
