The Chevrolet Spark has only been on sale in the US for about two months now, but it seems that its American clientele, which but a few years ago would have laughed in its face, has really taken a liking to it. So much so that they’ve had to boost imports of the car.
The 6,300 cars they’ve managed to sell so far surpasses the expected sales figure considerably, and the 27,000 Sparks they were planning to sell by the end of the year now seems like a pessimistic outlook. We don’t know many more cars they need, but at least 10,000 over the projected figure should suffice.
All Sparks are currently made in Korea, but if demand remains hight and the prospects are good, we would expect GM to move production somewhere closer to home. This also shows that American car buyers are beginning to see the appeal of small and efficient cars, which are not hybrids, and accept and appreciate them.
