The recently-teased ‘Supercharged Caterham’ has been officially revealed. It’s called the R600 Superlight, and it is the most powerful car ever made by the company, as well as the first to use forced induction. It is powered by a supercharged version of Ford’s Duratec 2.0-liter engine, which now produces 275 hp and 271 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque.

(The power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox and a limited-slip differential. No performance numbers have been released yet, but a car like this will tare your face off. According to Caterham’s Motorsport Director, Simon Lambert, "ss the fastest Seven we've ever built, this will provide our existing R300 racers with a real step up and a new and exciting challenge, even for experienced drivers. The R600 represents an increase in aggressiveness, although the linear power delivery of the supercharged engine makes it superbly driveable, much like the R300."

Priced at £44,995 (€56,000 / $72,700), the R600 Superlight is certainly very expensive, however, for a stripped out racer, with a roll cage and slicks, it’s is not badly priced. Also, owners of the lesser R300 model can upgrade their cars to the R600 spec, for a yet-undisclosed amount of money.
