If you've checked the pricing for heavy-duty dually trucks lately, you'll know the experience is similar to the sensation of having your elbows smashed in with a ball-peen hammer and being asked to write a check for at least $60,000 for the privelege. That's assuming you can find a dealership willing to haggle with you a little bit; prices can easily skyrocket into the six-figure range without even trying. But there are solutions if you're willing to buy something a little more "pre-owned" than what you'll find at the average GMC dealer.
For the people that don't need 90-inch touch screens, plush leather seats that can warm your bum during the winter, or even the slightest hint of rizz or pizzaz but still need a work truck to haul stuff, this 1983 GMC Sierra C3500 Classic is your saving grace, your white whale, your knight in shining, almond tan-colored armor. At a time when Chevrolet C/K and GMC medium and heavy trucks shared all but an aesthetical package together, the Sierra 3500 was less of a fancy Chevy truck and more of a fresh coat of paint on an otherwise intimately familiar form factor. It's one that's still iconic even 40 years after this truck left the factory.

Under the hood of this classic dually truck is a 454-cubic inch (7.5-L) naturally aspirated gasoline V8 that you might be familiar with from its placement in so many great muscle cars over the years. Of course, choking emissions restrictions and archaic catalytic converter technology from the early 80s ensure this motor isn't nearly as powerful in the horsepower department as your average late '60s Chevy Chevelle or El Camino. But hey, when you're doing nothing but towing goose-neck trailers across These States United at a steady 60 mph with a classic hot rod of some kind in tow, you don't need the king's share of horsepower.

All you need is a solid wave of torque to whisk you effortlessly across state lines while an old-school cloth bench seat lets you squirm around inside the truck's cab, free to stretch your legs as comfortably as you care to make them. It's a sensation that's likely completely foreign to younger truck fans who've grown up thinking you can't buy a dually truck without loading it up with every option this side of a Bentley or a Rolls-Royce.

We're sure the manual-crank windy windows and bare basic climate and radio controls would be a culture shock for more contemporary heavy-duty truck fans, too.We live in a time and era where this level of a basic work truck is pretty much impossible to find. That's why what we have here before you today is so very special indeed.
