According to a recent report, Cadillac is developing a long-wheelbase version of the ATS sedan for the Chinese market. The manufacturer plans to add 10 cm (4 inches) to the ATS’ wheelbase so that the ATS-L will go against similar offerings from BMW, Audi and Volvo.
Car New China reports that the Cadillac ATS-L will be built locally by the Shanghai-GM joint venture. Production is expected to begin in the second half of the year, while pricing will start around CNY275,000 (about $45,500). The report adds that the ATS-L will get both the 2.5-liter and 3.6-liter V6 engines, unlike the regular ATS that’s only available with the turbo 2.0-liter unit.

In related news, Cadillac introduced the 2015 ATS Coupe at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show earlier this month. The new vehicle will go on sale later this year and word has it Cadillac is looking to develop both wagon and convertible versions of the ATS in the future.
