Cadillac is building the ATS sedan to take on the likes of BMW’s 3-Sereis on the global market. To do this, it needs to have plenty of premium qualities and an engaging drive. That’ already a tall order, but it’s rumored to also pack a 2.0-liter turbo engine and even a 6.2-liter V8 in the more powerful ATS-V version.
That’s not even the end of it, because the chassis options are also very 3er-like! It will debut as a sedan, but the architecture will also be configured as a two-door coupe and even a convertible in the near future. If that sounds like too much for the American to pull in one go, how about an all-wheel drive version as well?
Yes, you heard us right! GM Inside News correctly points out that in the video we already showed you last week, the front wheels of the test mule are spinning while it’s on jacks. It’s unlikely that the ATS will have front-wheel drive, since this would overlap with many other GM cars, so the only option is AWD.
To check it out for yourself, skip ahead to about 1:50 in the video and tell us what you see. Could this mean that the next Impala might also get an AWD version? It would make sense to sell this in snow-bound regions of the US.
