Buick Verano Details Leaked by Accident

The Buick Verano is expected to be introduced sometime next year, following the successful presentation of the Regal. Scheduled to hit US consumers in 2012, the Verano compact will slot in beneath the Regal sedan.

According to a report issued by GM Inside News, the carmaker accidentally revealed the model’s preliminary equipment and pricing details through a survey letter sent out to Buick dealerships. It seems that only one engine is being developed for the Verano, a 2.4-liter inline-four (same as the Regal) that produces 180 horsepower at 6,700 rpm and 172 pound-feet (233 Nm) of torque at around 4,900 rpm. The car will have an automatic transmission and will be offered in four trim levels.

The base model Verano, called the 1SB in the letter, will cost from $20,900 (€15,750). The second 1SD trim level introduces Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control and remote start, and will be priced from around $22,100 (€16,663). According to the letter, 1SG Veranos will have powered driver's seat, heated mirrors and rear park assist and should have a price tag of roughly $23,300 (€17,568), while the top of the line 1SL will offer heated leather seats, Bose premium audio, a heated steering wheel and 18-inch wheels. A 1SL will start from $25,600 (€19,300), but we can expect it to go as high as $26,200 (€19,755).

This is the smallest Buick in the works right now, and while it fits well in the range, a luxury hatchback should do well for the brand. Chevy is already testing out hatch versions of the Cruze, and they look pretty similar to their concept version. However, a wagon Verano is much more likely, as is the introduction of diesel engines to the range.
