General Motors announced that the new Chevrolet Aveo will enter production in Seoul, Korea in the course of the following year and begin a rollout that will include an US-assembled incarnation of the car in 2012.
The vehicle will initially be introduced to the Korean market in the first half of next year.
GM recently reconfirmed the U.S. production of the vehicle at the Orion Township plant. The company also announced a $145 million investment that will include production of the Buick Verano at the plant.
“As GM’s global mini and small car development base, GM Daewoo led the design and R&D of the new model. The new Aveo small car is expected to be rolled out globally after entering the Korean market in the first half of 2011,” stated the press release.
The new Aveo came to the world at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, in the form of the Aveo RS concept. The production incarnation of the vehicle was recently shown at the Paris Auto Show.
The new Aveo uses a new tight body frame integral structure that offers a high level of torsional rigidity. This makes the vehicle’s chassis one of the stiffest in its class and offers the car an involving handling.
The Aveo’s engine range includes four petrol powerplants and two diesel units. The entry-level engine is a 70 hp 1.2 liter. This also comes with a 86 hp version, which is followed by a 100 hp 1.4 liter and by a 115 hp 1.6 liter engine. Diesel fans can choose between two incarnations of a 1.3 liter diesel engine, offering 75 and 95 hp, respectively.
