Buick Aiming for Six or Seven Model Range

General Motors has big plans for Buick, with the brand set to become an important marque that will seriously increase its market share.

One of the main efforts that will sustain Buick’s growth will be the expansion of the current model range, which includes four models, with the company set to offer six or seven models, as Automotive News reports.

John Schwegman, Head of Marketing at Buick, offered the aforementioned source a preview of the automaker’s future model line-up changes, adding that the transformation plans are set to be transformed into reality over the course of the next three years.

The 2012 model year will see the arrival of the Buick Verano, the carmaker’s version of the European Opel Astra, or the Buick Excellence GT in China. The vehicle also shares its front-wheel drive Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cruze.

In approximately the same period, the company will introduce the performance version of the Regal, the GS. This will come with the Opel Insignia OPC’s features. In other words, it will offer over 255 hp & 295 lb-ft of toque and an adaptive all-wheel drive system. GM is reportedly also working on a wagon version of the Opel Insignia, which could also be marketed as a Buick.

The LaCrosse sedan is expected to receive a hybrid version for the same model year with a facelift also coming. The 2016 model year will bring a new generation of the car. The Lucerne won’t be so lucky, as the model will be killed subsequent to the 2011 model year.

The aforementioned Delta platform will also be used to give birth to a compact crossover. This should receive the Encore name and arrive in the 2013 model year.
The Enclave crossover will get a refresh for the 2012 model year, with the move also bringing a 3.0 liter V6.
