Buick delivered 1,032,056 vehicles in China and North America in 2013, setting an all-time sales record and a 15.4 percent increase over the previous year. The company’s previous sales record dates from 1984, when Buick sold 1,003,345 vehicles, most of them in the United States of America.
About 80 percent of the cars delivered last year were sold in China, where Buick experienced a 15.7 percent increase over 2012 with 809,918 units sold. US deliveries went up 13.9 percent to 205,509 vehicles, while Canadian sales jumped 9.5 percent to 14,310 examples. In Mexico, Buick delivered 2,319 units that returned a 106.6 percent increase.
The Buick Enclave recorded its best sales year in the United States (97,311 units), while the China-exclusive compact Excelle dominated the compact sedan segment the world’s largest market with a 6.9 percent sales growth.
In related news, General Motors sold 2.8 million vehicles in the United States last year, an increase of seven percent compared with 2012. 7.3 percent of those vehicles were Buicks.
