While Bugatti employees are usually busy finding the proper source of inspiration for the next limited edition, things are different these days. The carmaker is working overtime to complete the development of a Veyron successor and it seems like this will cover the 0 to 100 KM/H sprint in two seconds.
That’s right, the Frech-branded hypercar will hit 62 MPH from a standing start in about the average time it takes a person to move the focus from the computer screen to their wristwatch, and memorize the exact time. The info was released by Car Magazine, and there’s more than one reason for which it makes sense.

First of all, this might seem like a weird, overdone target, but it’s just the thing you need to stay ahead on the market. A part of clientele enjoys the actual benefits of such extreme machines, but the category of those who adore the bragging rights justifies the work.

It also represents the typical technical ambition of Ferdinand Piech. Sure, Piech may no longer be Chairman of the VW Board as of the past weekend, but he is a man who lives for this sort of ultimate projects. After all, he is the one who green-lighted the Veyron.

Piech is the kind of man who can draw a complete engine sketch freehand and his perfect understanding of technical matters only fuels his ambitions. Since the Piech and the Porsche families own the majority of VW Group stake, his story with the company might not be over yet. Nonetheless, until we get more details on that, we’ll return to the Chiron, which is the tentative name for the Veyron successor.

We recently spied the hypercar during a... slow driving session - unlike in previous spyshots, where hybrid hardware was visible, this prototype didn’t show such signs.

Regardless, you should expect the Chiron to keep the W16 8-liter quad-turbo engine and deliver somewhere around 1,500 HP. The rumor mill sees the unit gaining direct injection, electric superchargers and cylinder deactivation in the 300 HP upgrade process.

The Chiron will reportedly have over 92 percent new or modified parts, but we’ll have some extra waiting to do until the job is finished. As Piech previously said, the project hasn’t been completed yet, so you should expect the hypercar to arrive in 2016.
