BMW Working on New M4 Commercial, Building on Previous Ads

It’s a short, 15 seconds spot that shows us just how good previous campaigns were and what they were based on, claiming that there will be a new one released in the near future, featuring the brand new M4.

It’s a story that started back in 2011 with the launch of the 1M Coupe and its commercial that showed the perfectly balanced car going through some walls. Well, holes in walls, to be more precise.

Then, came the BMW F10 M5 commercial that showed the first turbocharged M5 going through a glass apple at high speed, creating what they call art. We call it shattered glass but to each his own.

Now, it’s time for a proper commercial for the M4, one that would emphasize its power, torque and lightweight construction like never before. Up until now we didn’t really see a proper commercial for this car. Maybe that’s because deliveries didn’t officially start yet, on a global scale. Whatever is coming, it’s going to be big.

Unlike the new M cars. They have gone through a strict diet that saw them lose, on average, around 180 lbs compared to their predecessors. At the same time, the power and torque figures went up, offering indisputable better performance.

The new M4, for example, is 0.5 seconds faster than its predecessor, the E92 M3 Coupe, when they are both fitted with an automatic 7-speed DCT gearbox. The same difference applies for the 6-speed manual unit as well.

Fuel economy can’t be compared though, no matter what. The previous naturally aspirated 4-liter V8 engine used to return around 13 mpg on a good day, while the new blood will average around 22-24 mpg, nearly double as much, while also keeping the CO2 emissions close to 200 grams per km.

Prices for the M4 start at $64,200 in the US while Canadians have to pay at least CAD75,000.
