If you're into quick, family-oriented Bimmers, then you probably have your eyes set on the upcoming M5 Touring. However, this story isn't dedicated to the range-topping version of the series but the regular 5er Touring, as customer deliveries officially commenced over the weekend in the United Kingdom.
Deemed "a sophisticated all-rounder for everyday driving and touring," the BMW 5 Series Touring is available in four trim levels in the UK. These comprise the Sport Edition, M Sport, M Sport Pro, and i5 M60, which is a battery-electric proposal.

Choosing the Sport Edition will get you 19-inch alloys, standard Phytonic Blue Metallic paint finish, aluminum touches, sun protection glass, M Anthracite headliner, a two-spoke steering wheel, Harman Kardon audio, etc. The M Sport adds 21-inch wheels, vegan upholstery, M logos, and a few other things.

Further up the line, we find the M Sport Pro version, with its high-gloss Shadowline, high-gloss black kidney grille with Iconic Glow, an M rear spoiler, standard 20-inch alloys, M Sport brakes with red calipers, etc. The Merino leather upholstery, which comes from BMW Individual's portfolio, is optional, and so are the panoramic glass roof and bi-tone paint finishes.

The current top-of-the-line model, the i5 M60 xDrive Touring, comes with a high-end surround sound system from Bowers & Wilkins with 18 speakers, features exclusive touches inside and out, has adaptive suspension, 20-inch wheels, and can be specified with additional gizmos.

Power-wise, the i5 M60 xDrive Touring has a pair of motors that generate a combined 601 hp (610 ps/448 kW) and a total system torque of 605 lb-ft (820 Nm). BMW says it needs just 3.9s to 62 mph (100 kph) and can push up to 143 mph (230 kph). The lesser i5 eDrive40 Touring uses a rear-mounted motor with 340 hp (345 ps/254 kW) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) and can sprint to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds. Both use an 81.2 kWh battery that enables a range of 300 mi (483 km) for the M60 and 348 miles (560 km) for the eDrive40.

BMW says local pricing for the i5 eDrive40 starts at £69,945 (equal to $89,085). The i5 M60 can be ordered from £99,995 ($127,360), and for the 530e, which enjoys a maximum of 299 hp (303 ps/223 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, taking 6.4s to 62 moh and topping out at 137 mph (220 kph), the company is asking a minimum of £59,455 ($75,725).

In our market, the 2024 BMW 5 Series Sedan starts at $57,990 for the 530i, $60,200 for the 530i xDrive (AWD) and $64,900 for the 540i xDrive. The all-quiet i5 eDrive40 (with optional AWD) starts at $66,800, and for the i5 M60, interested parties are looking at $84,100. All prices exclude destination and dealer fees.
