The most popular travel enduro bike in the world, the BMW R 1200 GS has now been updated in a wide range of areas. Designed for even greater versatility than before, it taps into a previously unknown breadth of properties, ranging from dynamic performance to comfort and off-road suitability.
Starting with the engine itself, the air/liquid-cooled boxer has been updated with a new catalytic converter and a new data status for the ECU to meet the Euro 4 regulations. Apart from that, the powertrain got a judder damper on the transmission output shaft and a revision of the selector drum actuator and transmission shafts.

The new R 1200 GS also offers two riding modes - Rain and Road - along with Automatic Stability Control for optimal traction and stability. Optionally, you can opt for the ‘Riding Modes Pro’ pack featuring the additional Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, Enduro, and Enduro Pro riding modes along with Dynamic Traction Control.

More riding safety and performance is assured by the optional BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA, which automatically adapts the damping to the situation depending on riding conditions and maneuvers you make. There is also a self-leveling function to compensate all load states.

A new Rallye package is available now, adding increased spring rate, longer spring struts and extended spring travel, turning the bike into an off-road monster ready to navigate the dunes if needed.

Finally, the 2017 BMW R 1200 GS comes in new paint finishes and styles along with modified body panels. The underlying architecture is the same, but the bike has optimized ergonomics in the knee area. The front mudguard is redesigned while small slipstream deflectors add a touch of aerodynamic properties.

Other optional features include cylinder protection brackets, a topcase for two helmets and other off-road protection parts like a radiator and frame guard. Prices haven’t been announced at the moment of writing this piece.
