BMW Reports Record October Sales

BMW Group recorded a 12.4 percent growth in sales in October with 128,593 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles sold worldwide. A total of 1,190,796 units have been delivered since the start of the year, while sales increased by 12.9 percent compared to last year's first ten months.

"Our new models, like the BMW X1, the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the BMW 5 Series Touring and the MINI Countryman, continued to report strong gains in October and made a positive contribution to our sales performance,” said Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing. “New orders have been strong for all of these models, and based on the steady recovery of many markets, we continue to expect double-digit sales growth through the end of the year."

The BMW brand delivered 107,789 units in October which compared to the same month last year's figure of 95,867 sales indicates a 12.4 percent increase. More than one million deliveries have been recorded since January 2010, sustained by a continued strong growth in sales of the 5 Series (up 54.8 percent to 23,810 units compared to October 2009), 5 Series GT (2,480 units) and the new X1 with 10,162 deliveries. Members of the X family preserved their upwards trend with BMW X5 sales increasing 8.5 percent to 8,578 vehicles; BMW X6 sales were 11.6 percent higher at 3,827 units.

The MINI brand also increased its October sales by 6.1 percent to 20,525 units. The newly introduced MINI Countryman played an important role in this development, selling 3,525 units in October, accounting for a fifth of the brand's total monthly sales. For the first ten months of the year the company recorded a total of 188,275 sales – an increase of 4 percent over last year's same period.

The MINI Countryman is well on its way to becoming a highly successful model. Demand is stronger than our already optimistic plans. This model will launch according to plan in other key export markets, such as the US, over the next few weeks and further contribute to the positive sales performance of the MINI brand over the coming months,” Robertson added.

The Rolls-Royce brand continued its strong growth in October, with 279 vehicles delivered, up 298,6% from 70 units sold in October 2009. Sales since the start of the year also rose 278 percent to 2,007 units from 531 vehicles sold last year.

Sales of BMW motorcycles were up 1.7 percent compared to the previous year, with 6,845 units delivered in October and 88,353 sales since January, increasing by 15.6 percent over last year's same period.

In spite of economic uncertainties in North America, BMW Group retail volumes for October climbed 12.6 percent to 23,222 units. For the January to October period, sales of the BMW and MINI brands increased 7.7 percent to 215,274 vehicles.
