German automaker BMW has published a new video that celebrates the company’s 8 Series (E31) flagship coupe built between 1989 and 1999.
Introduced as the first car with a drag coefficient of less than 0.3 and as the most expensive BMW model of that time, the 8 Series had limited market success, sales being affected by the global recession of the early 1990s.
However, the 8 Series remained one of the most recognizable BMW designs and its range-topping versions, such as the 850CSi and the Alpina B12, are highly desirable on the used car market.
THe 8 Series coupe was built in only 31,062 units and was available with both V8 (4.0, 4.4-liter) and V12 (5.0, 5.4, 5.6-liter) engines and a choice of three manual and automatic transmissions. Power ranged from 282 HP to 375 HP, while Alpina models developed as much as 422 HP.
