Getting your hands on many German performance cars at a time isn't as easy as it seems, which is why Carwow shoots all sorts of drag race combinations to keep up entertained for months. However, that's also the best way to explain this weird combo from South Africa's Car magazine, which sees an Audi RS5 going up against the BMW M5 and the Mercedes GLC 63 S.
Other than being German and costing a lot of money, these three cars have very little in common. To start things off, the Audi RS5 is a 2-door coupe with the smallest engine here, a 2.9-liter V6. Due to its 450 horsepower and quattro, it needs to be taken seriously. However, it's not going up against direct rivals like the M3 or C63. Instead, we have two more all-wheel-drive machines.

From AMG, we get the GLC 63 S. It looks like the pre-facelift model, not that it matters, as the 510 horsepower output of the 4-liter V8 remains the same. This "Coupe" version looks faster than the normal model, but it's actually a little bit heavier as well, so no advantage there.

The real monster here is the M5, and it's the Competition model to make things super-unfair. Its 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 makes 625 horsepower, which is about a quarter more than the Audi. What's more, it's got the latest BMW launch systems.

Yet weight and traction can still play a part. And even though the M5 is supposed to win, we don't know which German rocket will cross the line second. Even though the heavier but more powerful GLC does this in the video, the RS5 has a slightly quicker quarter-mile time and top speed; the AMG just jumped the gun a little bit. If you'd like more drag racing, check out how the GLC 63 did against the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV or a shootout between the M5 and E63 S.
