If you’re an enthusiast and one of the people that have been waiting long and hard for BMW to unveil its GTS version of the M4 and just happen to live in the US, then you might’ve had a hard time in the last few months.
That’s because usually the Germans don’t bring their special models Stateside. That’s a thing they used to do to make sure their best of the best is kept in the homeland or as close as possible to it. As a matter of fact, most of the previous special models were sold on German soil.
Things changed in the last few years though and with the US market becoming more and more important for the brand and the M division in terms of sales, apparently the management board decided to drop that rule.
Therefore, we’re glad to inform you that the new BMW M4 GTS will be coming to the US, on official channels. We felt compelled to specify that since some models actually made it on American ground but not ‘officially’ but through various ‘intermediaries’.
That being said, we’re still waiting for a price tag and we’re hoping it’s not going to be similar to the one the M3 GTS had before it, well over the $100,000 limit. However, considering the performance this model brings, it’s hard to believe it’s going to be cheap, affordable or anything in between.
After all, we are talking about BMW’s fastest road car ever, with a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint of 3.8 seconds. The engine uses a water-injection air cooling system that is a premiere in the car industry (as a production model) and allows it to put down incredible numbers: 500 HP and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. Oh, and did we mention the 7:28 lap time on the Nordschleife? That’s on par with a Ferrari 458 Italia that surely is more expensive.
All things considered, this move might also explain why BMW decided to build 700 units of the M4 GTS, more than any other special edition models before it.
