There have been constant rumors about a more track-focused variant of the fifth-gen Toyota Supra for a few years now, and the latest comes from Japan, stating that this model might be due very soon.
In fact, BestCarWeb believes the rumored Toyota Supra GRMN might premiere as early as this fall. Is that an eyebrow-raiser? Why it sure is, considering that the same outlet said a few years back that it would debut in 2020. We also covered another report from them right before New Year's Eve, and that's when the BMW M4 CSL's powertrain came into discussion.

You see, the latest Supra is basically the same car beneath the coupe body as the rag-topped BMW Z4. In turn, the latter is built on the BMW Group's CLAR platform, which is a highly versatile construction underpinning numerous models, from the 2 Series to the 7 Series and from the X3 to the X7. As a result, Toyota has access to several punchy powertrains that it may use on the rumored Supra GRMN, and as we already told you, the latest rumors speak about the engine powering the M4 CSL.

Featuring M TwinPower Turbo tech sourced from the M4 GT3 racer, the 2023 BMW M4 CSL uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six with redesigned internals. The magic numbers produced are 542 hp (550 ps/405 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque, directed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed auto 'box. As for why it does not get the M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system question, the answer is simple: it would have made it too heavy. The M4 CSL takes 3.7 seconds from 0-62 mph (0-100 kph), and a hypothetical Supra GRMN using the same engine would be similarly fast.

In addition to the punchy mill, the Supra GRMN would need other upgrades to stand out further from the lesser models. Here, it would benefit from Gazoo Racing's know-how when it comes to the tuning of the chassis. It would ride closer to the ground, sporting a stiffer setup, and would have bigger brakes and probably sharper steering. It might also undergo a diet and would get beefier looks on the outside, and maybe front sports seats with additional side support and bespoke upholstery and trim in the cabin. The GRMN logo would decorate it inside and out, highlighting its more special nature.

We wouldn't exactly hold our breath for a possible introduction of the alleged Supra GRMN in the coming months, as the quoted outlet suggests, but such a model would be a great sent-off to the fifth-gen Supra, which is a little over four years old, and it's said to go fully electric for the next-gen reportedly due in 2026. It would also be the punchiest and most agile factory-spec of the car, and if it gets the green light for production, then it will probably be made in limited numbers for worldwide markets.
