For the European BMW fans, the M235i is basically a case of "same old, same old". But over in America, it's actually quite a big deal, the very first M Performance car available there.
Mechanically similar to its uglier hatchback brother, the M135i, this red coupe is gunning for the newly developed entry-level performance car market. This has just opened up in the US with the debut of the of the CLA 45 AMG and will expand even further soon, with the Audi's S3's imminent debut.
So, how does the M235i stack up against its competition? We think it's quite the looker, a true successor to the 1 Series M Coupe. From the front, it's especially nice, with classic design that's missing in the sportscar world.
For $43,000, you get the base car with a manual and 322-hp (326 PS), which is all you need. Unlike the CLA 45 AMG, which only comes with an auto, this car give you two transmission options, which is why we think it's going to a be a winner. The Merc costs $47,450 and is admittedly more powerful and faster, but it's a little too grow-up for its own good.
