Jalopnik Reader's Explanation for Hyundai's N Division
The guys from Hyundai are pretty low on inspiration these days, apparently. They like high-performance cars but they can’t really seem to come up with an original way to market them. To solve this problem, they did the easiest thing they could: copy someone else.
And who’s better than BMW’s own M division? They went right ahead and picked the letter that comes after the one the Bavarians chose, gave it some stripes (in almost the same colors as the ones used by the Germans) and, abracadabra, Hyundai has the ’N’ sub-brand that takes care of racing and stuff. I KID YOU NOT!

Of course, they do have a logical explanation for this but who’s gonna hear them out? They claim that the letter comes from the name of the research and development centre that made the i20 rally car, called Namyang... Yeah, right!

The best take on this matter though, comes from a Jalopnik reader, that has the perfect explanation for it. He goes through the whole alphabet and explains why they couldn’t pick a different letter. It’s the funniest thing I read in over a month. You should definitely check it out either on their website or in the attached screenshot.
