Back in June, BMW Group Technology Office USA previewed the BMW M Laptimer, teasing the hell out of every BMW M car owner that likes to take his car to the track. That was also when we found out that we'll be seeing this app officially launched this year.
Along with the new iOS 7 and iPhone 5S, BMW decided to finally launch the app for its customers, unfortunately only for those that purchases the BMW Apps option. The app records data from your BMW's GPS receiver and creates maps and comparative track times to help you improve over time.
Amongst the recorded data you'll find top speed, number of laps, best lap time and ambient temperature. In order to protect the drivers and keep them focused, the information is displayed on the screen only when the vehicle is no longer in motion.
The best thing about the app is that it can be used anywhere, not only on previously recorded tracks, or famous circuits. Actually, you can even create you custom map around the city. Sure, it's not recommended to race around town, but it is an interesting prospect, exchanging times with your friends via iPhone. You can download the BMW M Laptimer for free in the App Store.
