Comparing the upcoming BMW M2 with its predecessor, the 1M seemed a bit childish at first but, as we uncover more and more info about the upcoming Coupe we’re starting to realize that they are more alike than we’re willing to admit.
According to various sources, the new M car will be revealed in only four colors initially. They will be as boring as can be, and we are utterly stunned by the lack of imagination showed by BMW officials.
The four hues rumored to be the only choices offered initially are Alpine White, Mineral Grey, Black Sapphire and Long Beach Blue. Don’t get us wrong, all of them are beautiful in their way but for a car that is supposed to be as fun as the M2, they just don’t fit the profile.
Some Sakhir Orange would’ve worked wonders as well as maybe some Flamenco Red or maybe Java Green. However, don’t despair just yet as we’re pretty sure BMW will offer other colors down the road, later on.
Well, the engineers will give the engine an overboost function as they did on the N54 plant of the 1M that will offer 35 extra Nm (25 lb-ft) for short amounts of time in the mid and low RPM ranges. That will take the grand total up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.
It’s a welcome addition too because with just 465 Nm the difference compared to the M235i would’ve been too small. At the same time, the full-on M car will have plenty more features up its sleeve to make it better.
For example, chances are it will be lighter than the M Performance model, thanks to aluminum and carbon fiber usage. One thing’s for sure though, the roof won’t be CFRP-made while other parts might be featuring the lightweight material.
The M2 will also have a new suspension setup, brakes and better aerodynamics compared to its less-capable sibling so we’re pretty sure the Motorsport division didn’t agree to put its trademark letter on it without being sure it can handle it.
